Blogger Stylin’ Christmas Home Tour

It’s Day 2 out of 5 days of Christmas Home Tours in the Blogger Stylin’ Home Tour Series! I just want to give a super big THANK YOU to Lindsay from The White Buffalo Styling Co. for putting this all together and coordinating with all 53 bloggers ~ no easy task! If you are popping over from The Handmade Home, welcome!  This, That and Life is a blog with a lot of variety, but mainly focused on interior design/decorating, DIY projects, furniture makeovers, and even a bit of health and beauty/fashion.  My husband and I have been married 11 years now and have three kiddos that keep us on our toes, not to mention  we’re do-it-yourselfers at heart and love working together!  So that’s me in a nutshell. I’m so glad you’re here ~ come on in! :-D

This, That and Life: Christmas Home Tour

Right off the bat I want to share the easiest yet most significant part of our home for the holidays.  Since we live on the beach, we gather a ton of driftwood over the course of our walks. I decided to take a decent size piece this year and place it on our windowsill by the sink {which has actually already moved to behind our stove by our bar area.  On top of it, we simply placed some tealight candles and every night light these candles with the kids and pray for specific people: our military families, the homeless, orphans/widows, those who are going through sicknesses, and those who have lost loved ones {particularly children}.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the flurry of decorating and buying things and getting fancied up over the holidays, so this is just a very practical way for us to remember that as a family we celebrate the birth of Jesus and that he lives today and cares for us…even through the inevitable hardships of humanity. Not only that, but that we need to be an active participant in helping those in need. I know I am SO thankful for those who have been there for me when we have gone through life’s struggles. Just fyi, I have link party idea in the works so that you as readers can share charities/outreach organizations within your community.  Giving back means so much to me and as a part of this little ol’ blog, but many times readers have said, “Well…I know this great organization, but it’s just in my city.”  So anyhow, be on the lookout soon to share those great places you know about! Ok?  So…..moving on with the tour. :-D

Our entryway, kitchen, dining, and living are basically all one room, so I tried to keep it pretty cohesive. I love fresh greens {and that’s a huge understatement} so I bought a couple of garlands at Home Depot to put on the mantle and stairwell, then had just enough for a diy wreath.

During the Fall Home Tour series, our living room looked like this:

But since then, I’ve been working on implementing my recent design concept, so now it’s looking more like this:

I just posted about our mantle here, and overall am loving how it’s all coming together!

Our bucket is working out GREAT by the way!!! We got one for the kid’s tree too which you’ll see in a minute.

This isn’t the best photo ever, but it kind of gives you a glimpse of our view. I’m always posting different photos on instagram {@thisthatandlife} when it’s a gorgeous sunrise or sunset ~ it seriously never gets old.

We’re loving our musical colorful discoball lights this year ~ they were a fun Big Lots find!

I posted a video of them recently on instagram if you’re interested. ;-)

If you didn’t already know….I’m a the proud wife of a real live firefighter. It’s true. ;-)

This is our “Advent Tree” for this year. I needed something really simple and still had our envelopes from this advent calendar I did a couple years ago. I just add a new envelope each day with a little note inside. Sometimes it’s just a little saying and other days it’s an activity we’ll be doing together.

I was hoping to use these bells on some mirrors in our hallway, but I’m not quite finished with it’s little makeover, so I used the twist tie on the red bow to attach them to our chairs. I honestly thought that would last like ONE day, but it doesn’t ring very loud and has been just fine. Yay!

These glass trees were passed on to me through my Dad’s side of the family, so they have a special place in our Christmas decor every year. They always end up in a different place, but I love their simplicity.

I’m so happy we decided to keep this hutch ~ it was such a great piece to refinish and I was having a hard time taking it to the shop!

After awhile Riley decided to just chill while I was taking photos. He’s such a good boy. ;-)

Up the stairs we go…..

This is our kiddo’s bedroom door {via aforementioned unfinished hallway}. All three of them share a room, so we tried to make things extra special this year.

They got their own tree in a bucket that they decorated all on their own IN their room, all underneath glittery red and gold hanging snowflakes. Yes they are super excited!  I’m not the best at chalkboard handwriting, but I thought this verse was perfect.  I seriously did contemplate writing, “You Better Watch Out…..”, from the Santa Claus is Coming to Town song, but then I thought it might ruin the ambiance, joy, and whatever wonderful excitement the kid’s were feeling and they’d feel like their wall was staring at them with a mean face all the time. Lol! We don’t want that! :-P

Needless to say, they LOVE it! And so do I.

Merry Christmas everyone!
