With the whirlwind of a move like we just had {and are still settling in}, I’m now finally sitting down here at my laptop and almost don’t know where to begin as I get back into things around here on the blog. So I’m just going to keep it simple and stick to a basic, good ‘ol furniture makoever. Fair?

I shared a sneak peek of this piece in my last post, and if you follow along on Instagram, you’ve seen more of the sneak peeks too. This dresser was originally left as-is in our office, but I always thought it would look great in this gorgeous green color, which is Benjamin Moore’s Clover Green.  This dresser was one of a few pieces of furniture I wanted to refinish before we completely packed everything up for the big move.

I love how it turned out and actually wish I would have refinished it sooner. I think the original brass hardware looks so stunning against the green! Since this was latex paint, I lightly sanded all surfaces {after removing the hardware and drawers}, cleaned it up and began hand brush painting. I did not use any primer on this piece and I add floetrol to latex paint to minimize brush strokes. It will NOT always work to use latex without a primer {your paint won’t stick}, but this piece was a good candidate for it because the wood was more “dry”. Sometimes if you are uncertain, it pays off to do a test spot.

After painting two coats on the entire piece, I sealed it with one coat of Annie Sloan clear wax, followed by one coat of Annie Sloan dark wax. I usually let my pieces cure {or sit} for 24-72 hours before reassembling them and adding the hardware back. ;-)

Again, I’m super excited to get back into the swing of things! Our son had a bit of a rough start with preschool, but I think we are on the upside and he’s getting more excited about it everyday!

Also, I NEED YOUR HELP! I will be starting to highlight more CHARITIES and GOOD CAUSES around here, and who better to ask then you! If you know of a great charity, foundation, etc. and would like to see them featured here on This, That and Life, please e.mail me at thisthatandlife@gmail.com with the subject line “GIVING BACK”. I’m hoping to make this a weekly feature, so don’t be shy and send me a note!

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Way to give back, girlie! I love the dresser, and I love St. Jude. That’s the charity that pulls my heart the most!

  2. I have a similar dresser with the same hardware, but are missing 2. What online seller to you recommend for this?

  3. That color is amazing!!! Green and gold are meant for each other :)

  4. I love love love the original hardware with the green (like you said). Come to mama!

  5. Oh that dresser is just gorgeous and is just the right color. Love the green with the brass hardware, too…makes my heart skip a beat. And I love your idea with the charities! We have some local ones doing pretty incredible stuff, but as far as my two favorite larger organizations…love charity: water & obviously Compassion.

    • Thanks for sharing those organizations ~ we love those too! And I really wish I could keep this dresser, but off it goes. I have a lot of that paint though. ;-)

  6. It looks so beautiful! I love how vibrant and bold the green is. I’m curious to know more about the wax. Everyone uses it but I have never. What do you like about it?

    • Thanks so much Kayla! As for the wax, it definitely takes a learning curve, but it really creates a very nice finish to a piece. You can make it more or less shiny, but overall, it’s just looks beautiful!

  7. Anneke! I love it!!!! So great! The color with the gold is perfect. Happy Weekend!! xo Kristin

  8. I love the color Anneke. It looks stunning!
